What is #75in5?A community-wide goal aiming to raise the percentage of Howard County Kindergartners' readiness levels from 45% currently to 75% in 5 years (2022).
The first five years of a child’s life are a time of enormous social, emotional, physical and intellectual growth. Children who are prepared for Kindergarten are less likely to be held back or drop out of school and have a better chance to succeed in college (post-secondary schools), work, and life.
So let's help get the children of our community Ready for Kindergarten. And Beyond!
How Does The United Way Tie Into This Initiative?
The United Way houses multiple programs and events that benefit children aged 0-5 in preparation for Kindergarten. These programs include:
- Real Men Read
- The Imagination Library
- Kindergarten Countdown
- Kindergarten Countdown Camp
- Meet Up, Eat Up, Read Up
- On My Way Pre-K
- Walk Into My Future (YMCA program)
Who Else Is Involved?
An Early Learning Coalition made up of over 80 community volunteers. They're working in 5 separate groups to bring the community a uniform assessment for all Kindergartners across the county, public policy, mobilizing the community, establishing quality Early Learning Centers for your children and engaging families to make this #75in5 goal a reality.
The Howard County Public Library has adopted the #75in5 goal as their own. Are you ready to commit as well? We need all citizens, organizations, businesses, corporations, etc. who live and work in Howard County to stride with us if we want to reach our goal! #BetterTogether
