FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Kokomo, IN, May 1, 2017/Press Release/ -- The United States Postal Service, National Association of Letter Carriers, AFL-CIO, and United Way of Howard County are working together to help fill our local food pantries. On Saturday, May 13, our local letter carriers will be picking up nonperishable food items like canned meats, soup, vegetables, juices, pasta, cereal and rice. Volunteers are needed to make this project a success. This is a great opportunity for families, individuals, organizations, and workplaces.
Several ways to volunteer. All volunteers – register below please!
1. Canvass walkers are needed to put reminder cards and food donation bags in mailboxes the week before the event. Pick up your reminder cards, food donation bags, and maps the week of May 6 -12 at United Way 2-1-1, 210 W Walnut, Kokomo, IN during regular business hours 8am - 4:30pm. Canvass walking can be done anytime the week before the event.
2. Neighborhood walkers are needed to help letter carriers collect food items on Saturday, May 13 and bring food to collection points. Shifts are available anytime between 8:30am – 12Noon or 1pm - 4pm. This is great for families, individuals, church groups, student organizations, businesses and workplace teams.
Before your shift, stop by the main post office, 2719 S Webster, Kokomo, IN 46902, on Saturday, May 13 to get route assignments, maps and materials.
Morning Walkers (8:30am - 12Noon): Check in at United States Post Office Main Branch, 2719 S. Webster, Kokomo, IN 46902, on the south side of the building by the dock.
Afternoon Walkers (1pm - 4pm): Check in at United States Post Office Main Branch, 2719 S. Webster, Kokomo, IN 46902, on the west side of the building, back door.
3. Super strong people to work the main collection point to unload collected food.
