Meet Up, Eat Up and Read Up brings FREE summer lunches, reading programs, Kindergarten Countdown Camps and FUN!

Kokomo, IN, June 2, 2015/Press Release/ -- What does it feel like to be hungry? That’s the issue facing 1 in 4 kids today – particularly during the summer months when they can’t rely on school meals for a steady source of food. United Way, Carver Community Center, Duke Energy, Kokomo School Corporation and Center Township of Howard County are responding to this crisis by supporting Meet Up, Eat Up, & Read Up, which is both a program and a call to action where kids can get tasty, nutritious meals, improve reading skills, hang out with friends, and have fun all summer long — at no cost. Here are all the details for a great summer:
MEET UP
Meet Up at Carver Community Center and join us for kid-friendly summer fun! Bring a friend or make a new friend! Kids will have opportunities to develop new skills in a safe and supportive environment. Every day brings something different; crafts, theater, sports, games, dance and more. All school-aged children welcome, no registration required. Transportation not furnished.
Meet us at Carver Community Center during the weeks of:
June 8, June 15, June 22, June 29, July 6, July 13, July 20 / Monday –Thursday (11am-2pm)
 
EAT UP
Kokomo School Corporation has extended meal programs into summer months - for FREE. Healthy food is essential for success and to fuel your summer fun! All school-aged children ages 5-18 years-old are welcome, no registration required. Transportation not furnished.
Eat with us at Carver Community Center during the weeks of:
June 8, June 15, June 22, June 29, July 6, July 13, July 20 / Monday - Friday (11am-1pm)
 
READ UP
Read Up with teachers and volunteers to improve your reading skills, math too! From Kindergarten to 3rd grade, kids learn to read. By 2nd or 3rd grade, it’s time to read to learn. We will help struggling students going into the 2nd or 3rd grade get on track and stay on track. Lesson plans are taught daily. Teachers will help kids reach grade-level reading, build phonics, fluency, comprehension and vocabulary. Lunch provided daily, all for FREE. Transportation not furnished.

KINDERGARTEN COUNTDOWN CAMP
Get ready for kindergarten! Kindergarten Countdown Camp is a FREE five week summer program to help kids get ready for kindergarten in the fall. Classes are led by experienced, certified teachers and lunch will be provided. Kids will gain confidence in their new school experience. Lunch provided daily. Transportation not furnished.
