Supportive Unions Prepare Pupils for Learning in Elementary Schools- Distribution July 5 thru July 8

Kokomo, IN – For many kids, summer is almost over and the start of school is entering their minds. This means folders, glue, tissues, paper and other school supplies are needed. For the 120th year, the SUPPLIES program, a community service program of the Howard-Tipton Counties Central Labor Council, other area unions and community partners, will take some burden off the minds of parents across the county.

Times: 10am-Noon or 1pm-5pm

SUPPLIES is a partnership between local unions, the Salvation Army, FCA and United Way of Howard County. The purpose of the program is to address the need for school supplies for students that may not have everything they need the first day of school. Last year, children from every school district in the county benefited from the program. Partners participate by contributing money or having gate collections and providing volunteers.

SUPPLIES has helped more than 18,800 children with school items. The program has an income limit based on family size/income and distribution of the items is on a first come first served basis. People needing SUPPLIES must bring in proof of Howard County residence, identification for all household members and verification of income, and expenses for the last 30 days. This includes proof of assistance in the form of loans and payments made on behalf of the family by family and friends. Proof of public assistance (SNAP and TANF) can help speed the application process.
Items will be distributed from UAW 685, 929 E. Hoffer.

The dates for distribution are as follows: last names beginning with the letters:
F-K Tuesday, July 5, 2016 10AM-Noon & 1-5PM
L-R, Wednesday, July 6, 2016 10AM-Noon & 1-5PM
S-Z, Thursday, July 7, 2016 10AM-Noon & 1-5PM
A-E and anyone that missed a day prior, Friday, July 8, 2016 10AM-Noon & 1-5PM

Volunteers are needed to help screen recipients and bags items. Donations of school supplies are also welcome and can be delivered at the Union Hall any time during the week of distribution.
