Meet Up, Eat Up and Read Up brings FREE summer lunches, reading programs, Kindergarten Countdown Camps and new partners!

Kokomo, IN, May 18, 2017/Press Release/ -- In line with United Way’s education initiative #75in5 - getting 75% of Kindergarteners ready for their first experience as students, is the list of 2017 summer programming. Joined by new community partners to expand learning opportunities to more students, there is something for everyone. Area schools, businesses, government, and community volunteers are responding to this initiative. Here are all the details for a great summer:
Meet Up at Carver Community Center or Taylor Community Schools and join us for a kid-friendly summer. Bring a friend or make a new friend! Kids learn new skills in a safe and supportive environment. Every day brings something different; crafts, sports, games. All school-aged children ages 5-18 are welcome, no registration required. Transportation not furnished. Meet us at Carver Community Center and Taylor Community School during the weeks of: June 5, June 12, June 19, June 26, July 3, July 10. Monday – Thursday 12Noon – 2pm.
Kokomo School Corporation and Taylor Community Schools have extended meal programs into summer months – for FREE. Healthy food is essential for success and to fuel your summer fun! All school-aged children ages 5-18 are welcome, no registration required. Transportation no furnished. Eat with us at Carver Community Center and Taylor Community Schools during the weeks of June 5, June 12, June 19, June 26, July 3, July 10. Monday – Friday (11am – 1pm).
Read Up with teachers and volunteers to improve your reading skills, math too! From Kindergarten to 3rd grade, kids learn to read. By 2nd or 3rd grade, it’s time to read to learn. We will help students going into the 2nd or 3rd grade get on track and stay on track. Lesson plans taught daily. Teachers will help kids reach grade-level reading, build phonics, fluency, comprehension and vocabulary – registration required. Lunch provided daily, all for FREE. Transportation not furnished.

KINDERGARTEN COUNTDOWN CAMP
Get ready for kindergarten! Kindergarten Countdown Camp is a FREE four-week summer program for incoming Kindergarteners with little or no preschool experience. Experienced, certified teachers lead classes and lunch is provided. Transportation not furnished. Countdown with us at Taylor Elementary School or Kokomo School Corporation’s Elwood Haynes during the weeks of: June 5, June 12, June 19, June 26, Monday – Thursday, 8am – Noon. Howard County welcomes incoming Kindergarteners! This is a partnership of area businesses, hospitals, and government. Activities launch from all KHCPL (Library) locations starting June 5 with a free t-shirt, map of summer events (stops), and a passport to record all the fun. Summer events (stops) invite incoming Kindergarteners, parents, guardians to learn and enjoy new experiences around Howard County to get excited for their transition into Kindergarten.
