Taylor Community Schools Host Second Service Learning Day

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

KOKOMO, IN – 1,500 students, faculty and staff from Taylor Community Schools, in partnership with United Way of Howard County, will host their Second Pre K – 12 Service Learning Day on Tuesday, August 29th from 9am – 11am throughout Howard County to cultivate a culture of good citizenship and learning through service to others.

“It’s important that we show our next generations how a compassionate heart impacts one community to the next”, said Jeremy Luna, Taylor Elementary Principal and 2017 Taylor Service Learning Day Chair. “Taylor Service Learning Day is a fantastic opportunity to show the community the ‘Taylor Spirit’ that lives in all of our students.”

In 2016, Taylor Community Schools completed thousands of hours of service to the community in a single-day event. They are looking forward to service becoming a tradition for the schools corporation.

“Working with the United Way ensures that our impact is local and meaningful for all involved,” said Luna. “Taylor is blessed to have the opportunity to be a part of such an amazing learning opportunity.”

United Way of Howard County facilitates the volunteer opportunities. Students organized by grade level will complete projects for area nonprofits like landscaping, cleaning, organizing, and sorting – and learn about the difference they make through service to others.

“It’s never too early to start volunteering. In fact, the earlier volunteering begins and continues throughout childhood, the more likely a person is to participate in community activities as an adult,” said Brian Gallagher, Volunteer and Resource Development Coordinator for United Way of Howard County.
