United Way’s 2-1-1 agency is the number to call to schedule an appointment. United Way 2-1-1 is an information and referral to community service organizations, connecting those in need with services.
“The vitality of this program is its volunteers. All volunteers are required to take a free certification course offered by the IRS. This class is provided free of charge by the IRS. We have several seniors majoring in accounting from IUK and Ivy Tech that used this experience to assist in future job placement. We also have retired tax preparers, economics and accounting professors that ranged in age from 21 to over 70 years of age,” said Carman Toler, Financial Stability Director, United Way of Howard County.
Last year United Way and its volunteers completed 1,727 tax returns and brought $1.9 million back into area communities. Volunteers are always needed! Please call 2-1-1!
